Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible to apply for a Guiding Eyes dog if you:

• are legally blind according to your eye doctor
• are at least 16 years old
• have completed formal Orientation and Mobility training at a rehabilitation facility, or in high school
• walk outdoors regularly and independently using a white cane
• are able and willing to be responsible full time for a guide dog’s care

If you meet these criteria, you are ready to apply.

If you meet the other criteria but have not yet had Orientation and Mobility training, you are not ready to apply.  Please visit http://www.afb.org/ to locate your nearest agency and request services.
