What Bentley Means To Me

by Guiding Eyes graduate Jywanza Maye (for Jane Sobel Klonsky’s Project Unconditional)

Bentley means independence, confidence and companionship. I became blind at 14 and got my first guide dog at 17.  Before I had Bentley, I didn’t travel much, hardly went out and was afraid to go out alone. However, since getting a guide dog, I now have the confidence to travel alone, which crosses over to all facets of my life. I have lived in four states since 2006 and Bentley has always been the one constant in all my moves and in everything I have done. He is part of my family.

Jane Sobel Klonsky’s Project Unconditional is a book of photos and stories featuring the tender, powerful relationships between people and their older dogs.  We’ve been privileged to have her meet and photograph several Guiding Eyes graduates.  Visit Jane’s website or like her Facebook page to follow her work.
