Guiding Eyes for the Blind’s experienced staff evaluates all dogs for potential guide work. Just like people, dogs have different personalities and are suited for different careers.
While those not selected for guide work can make great companions, Guiding Eyes dogs that are adopted for pets cannot be used or trained as guide dogs or other service animals with public access privileges. Breeds available include Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds.
For a limited time, we’re accepting new applications to adopt puppies aged 8-12 weeks old. Only families who are prepared to welcome a puppy into their home between now and the end of March 2024 should apply. We have more black than yellow puppies, so choosing a black puppy or “no color preference” will increase your chances of matching with a puppy.
We’re happy to now accept new applications from people who are interested in adopting adult German Shepherds!
As always, we welcome new applications from those who would like to adopt an adult dog with a medical or behavioral issue. We also welcome new applications from those who would like to adopt an older adult dog. Our waitlist for young adult Labs without a medical or behavioral issue remains closed.
For more info on adult dog adoptions, please email adoptions@guidingeyes.org.
Guiding Eyes relies 100% on donations to fulfill our mission of providing guide dogs to visually impaired individuals. Sponsors making a charitable gift of $25,000. (for adult dogs), or $7500. (for puppies), will be considered for an expedited adoption. We refer to this as a Priority Adoption. For more information about our Priority Adoption Program, please contact Margaret Rooney at mrooney@guidingeyes.org.
These are special dogs, so as part of our program, we ask that adopters commit to keeping us up to date with their dog’s progress by completing an Adopters Health Survey each year.
