Gianna, Vincent and Marzi hang out with Heeling Autism service dog Randy at the 2012 Cold Spring Lions Strut Your Pup event

We are lucky to have great friends and supporters that work hard to raise funds for our programs and services.  Here are some of the exciting things happening this fall:

September 25: Doug Olender Walks for Blind Veterans
Blind Army Veteran Doug Olender plans to walk almost 250 miles from Clinton MO to St. Louis along the Katy Trails accompanied by his Guiding Eyes dog, Harry and good friend, Charlie in an effort to raise awareness and funds to support Guiding Eyes for the Blind and Blinded Veterans of MO.  Support Doug’s journey here.

September 27: Masonic Charities of Carmel – Golf Outing
Putnam National Golf Club will host The Masonic Charities of Carmel’s annual golf outing to benefit Guiding Eyes.  $125 per golfer includes green fees and a golf cart plus a continental breakfast and barbecue lunch.  Sponsorship opportunities available.  For more information, contact Jim Lease (914.497.1353) or Doug Adams (845.222.9434).

September 28: Strut Your Pup
Join the Cold Spring Lions from 1:00 – 3:00pm as they walk to support Heeling Autism.  Register your family and your pups at St Marys Church (1 Chestnut Street in Cold Spring, NY) at 1 PM.  The walk will go to the bottom of Main Street, and back to St Marys for refreshments and a brief talk.  Make a contribution to Strut Your Pup here.

September 28: Jeannie’s Half Marathon
Jeannie’s story – “Twelve years ago I met my friend Max. He was blind and told me how his guide dogs had made a tremendous impact on his life.  I love dogs and I loved the idea of helping to raise a pup for a sight-impaired individual.  I began volunteering as a puppy raiser.  One year ago, I began running, and now I love that too.  On 9/28 I’ll run to celebrate my birthday, and I’m certainly going to party when I cross the finish line!  My run is not only about myself, but about helping an organization that is near and dear to my heart.  Thanks for your support!”  Support Jeannie’s run here.

October 4-6: Fall Harvest Classic Charity Horse Show
From organizer Connie Kuusisto: “Guiding Eyes is an organization near and dear to my heart.  Not only did I work there for over 20 years, I also met my husband, Stephen Kuusisto there.  My two children were practically raised in the Yorktown office.  I’m happy to help raise funds for such an important cause!”  Learn more about the Fall Harvest Show here.

October 5: Nightwalk in NYC
Guiding Eyes is honored to have the support of Beacon Hardware and the Stark Family – for the fourth year in a row!  From Bruce Stark – ” I sponsor a walkathon to benefit Guiding Eyes for the Blind.  Aside from helping a great organization, this is done to honor the memory my sister, Marcia, who was blind and had two guide dogs in her short life.  We will walk on Saturday night, October 5th. Everyone is welcome, especially kids and friendly dogs. There is even free parking (contact me for location).  It is a short walk, preceded by a lot of fun and food.  Support Nightwalk in NYC here.
