Dear Guiding Eyes Graduates,
To celebrate the partnership of Guiding Eyes grads and their dogs through true stories written by grads, and to share those stories within the graduate community and beyond, the graduate council is excited to announce the 2026 Guiding Eyes Miniature Moments Writing Contest for Grads. This is your opportunity to write about your experiences with a guide dog by your side. We look forward to the engagement that this contest will raise, as well as the warmth, encouragement, and community that comes when we share our journeys through the power of the written word.
Rules:
- The topic of your miniature moment must be a true story, situation, or reflection involving your guide dog.
- Length maximum is 50 words.
- Entries will be judged on creativity, clarity, and expression of ideas.
- Only Guiding Eyes grads are eligible to enter this contest.
- Each graduate is allowed to enter up to two miniature moments, submitted separately.
- Each miniature moment must be submitted in one of two ways: through the contest portal provided here, or on email sent to gradcouncil@guidingeyes.org with the subject line “Miniature Moment Contest.”
- Three winning entries, selected by a panel of judges, will receive prizes from Guiding Eyes.
- Entering this contest acknowledges your permission for Guiding Eyes to share your miniature moment on various public platforms.
- By entering this contest, you are attesting that you did not use AI to generate the content of your miniature moment and that your entry is your original work.
- You may be asked to submit a photo to accompany your miniature moment if your entry is selected for publication.
- Entries that do not meet all of the above guidelines will be disqualified from the contest.
Deadline and Notification:
Tips:
- Think of those snapshot moments when you and your guide dog experienced something special. Paint that moment with your words.
- Do not try to tell a long story in 50 words. Choose instead to convey a scene that can fit in that small space.
- Every word counts, including the small ones, so edit carefully and thoroughly.
- Fifty words is approximately equivalent to a paragraph, for reference.
- Your miniature moment can be sad, happy, or any other tone, so keep an open mind as you brainstorm ideas.
