Donor Advised Funds

Your gift can change the lives of individuals with vision loss

What is a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic giving vehicle that provides an immediate tax benefit to you and allows you to grant funds to charities of your choice. A donor-advised fund may sound like something that’s only for the ultra-wealthy, but it’s actually accessible to anyone who makes charitable contributions. Think of it as a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about.

How do I give through a donor-advised fund?

You can give in two ways:

1. Recommend a DAF grant through your financial institution or foundation

You can recommend a gift by contacting your financial institution or foundation or by granting online (find yours below).

The grant will arrive at Guiding Eyes for the Blind with only the fund’s name and address on it, unless you request otherwise.*

2. Contact your fund manager

Did you know you can recommend a one-time grant or schedule ongoing donations?

Call your fund manager and recommend supporting Guiding Eyes for the Blind, along with the amount of the grant.

Your fund manager will send a check directly to Guiding Eyes from your fund.*

When granting through your donor-advised fund, please use the following information:

Legal Name: Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Inc.

Tax ID (EIN): 13-1854606

Mailing Address:

Guiding Eyes for the Blind
611 Granite Springs Road
Yorktown Heights, NY 10598

*Please request that your name and address be included to inform us of your gift, so we can thank you for your generosity.

Frequently Asked Questions (DAFs)

Can Donor-Advised Fund grants be used for event tickets, sponsorships, or memberships?

No. Donor-Advised Fund grants may not be used to pay for any portion of an event, sponsorship, or membership that provides goods, services, or other benefits to the donor.

Will I receive a tax acknowledgment for my Donor-Advised Fund grant?

No. Tax acknowledgment is provided by the sponsoring organization at the time the contribution is made to the Donor-Advised Fund. The nonprofit receiving the grant will provide confirmation of receipt only.

May I use my Donor-Advised Fund to fulfill a pledge or commitment?

Donor-Advised Fund grants may not be used to satisfy a legally binding pledge. However, donors may recommend a grant and indicate that it is intended to support an existing commitment.

How should I notify Guiding Eyes for the Blind of my Donor-Advised Fund gift?

To ensure timely recognition, please request that your sponsoring organization (Schwab, Fidelity, etc.) include your name with the grant or notify Rebekah Cross, Director of Donor Relations, directly at rcross@guidingeyes.org. Anonymous grants may limit our ability to acknowledge your gift.
