CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell recently showcased Guiding Eyes for the Blind and its President and CEO, Thomas Panek in its segment, “Heart of America”. This daily feature recognizes remarkable individuals who inspire and bring hope from all corners of America. The Guiding Eyes community is honored to have been selected as the positive and inspiring story to close out the evening’s news report.

During the segment, Thomas sat on a couch with his new guide dog, Ten, relaxing by his side. Ms. O’Donnell highlighted the positive contributions the organization provides, and the recent handoff of Ten to Thomas, from Board Member Eli Manning, who inspired his name. This was followed by footage of Thomas candidly discussing the difficulties of being an individual living with blindness, while his partner Ten recognized the opportunity to catch a well-deserved nap.

I can’t see the stars at night. I couldn’t see the eclipse last night, but I do have this wonderful dog by my side that helps me. And I want to provide that to anyone who is going through the same thing that I’ve been through.”
