Help us meet our goal

While Guiding Eyes is making a significant financial commitment, we’re asking our community of friends to help us raise $32,000,000 to complete this important project.

Thanks to some generous friends of Guiding Eyes for the Blind, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar – up to a total of $200,000 – to go twice as far in helping us build this amazing new kennel.

Our Mission & Impact

Guiding Eyes for the Blind provides guide dogs to people with vision loss. We are passionate about connecting exceptional dogs with individuals for greater
independence.

Why this Project Matters

More than 7 million Americans are living with uncorrectable vision loss and current research indicates that the prevalence of  low vision and blindness will more than double over the next 30 years.

As rates continue to climb, so does the demand for our guide dogs. Today, individuals can wait up to two years to be matched with a guide dog. With our current facility operating at full capacity, and training a maximum of 150 guide dog teams each year, we are unable to keep pace with this rising demand.

Our New Chapter

The new Guiding Eyes Wellness & Training Center will span 47,000 feet on a 12-acre property, just two miles from the current campus in Yorktown Heights, NY. At full capacity, we will house up to 220 guide dogs in training, a 45% increase in
capacity.

Key Objectives:

  • Strengthen our student experience by reducing wait times for a guide dog
  • Invest in our dogs by housing and training in a smaller group environment
  • Elevate our community with additional training opportunities and improved
    workflows

We are introducing a groundbreaking “pod design” that will redefine how we care for and train our dogs. These custom-designed pods will offer quiet and comfortable living spaces where dogs can thrive in smaller groups, each with its own dedicated outdoor space for play, exercise, and enrichment.

This thoughtful approach isn’t just about comfort, it’s about outcomes. The pod
model enhances canine health by minimizing noise, reducing stress levels, and limiting the spread of illness. It also fosters strong, consistent relationships between our dogs and their trainers—ensuring each dog receives the individualized attention they need to thrive in their future homes.

Key Features:

  • A cutting-edge veterinary facility, including spaces for patient recovery,
    ultrasounds, endoscopy, dentistry, and surgery.
  • Simulated “real-life” training rooms to engage in dog enrichment, socialization,
    and training.
  • Staff workrooms integrated into the kennel area, maximizing human interactions
    with our dogs.
  • Multipurpose areas for indoor training, operations, and public visitations.

The success of this campaign is possible only with the support of our community. Join
us in raising $32 million for our new Wellness & Training Center!

FAQs

What will the campaign support?

The campaign will support the construction of our new Wellness & Training Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. We have outgrown our current facility in size, scope, and functionality. This project will have an immediate impact on our ability to provide more guide dogs to more people who are blind.

The new Wellness & Training Center will serve as the new residence for dogs in training, who will live in dedicated “pods” within the facility. The Center will also house the veterinary hospital, where all our veterinarians will be located. The current campus will continue to be used for training guide dog teams.
